Chiba City's first winery, opened in 2025, where welfare-program members grow the grapes and paint the labels.
Chiba Winery became the city's first wine producer when its parent company, housing firm Tomio Holdings, obtained a fruit-wine license in October 2025. The project is built on an agriculture-welfare partnership: members of the Atelier Hifumiyo support facility help grow the grapes and make the wine, and their artwork appears on the labels. Early releases use contract fruit from Sakura and Kashiwa, alongside a cider from Chiba University orchard apples and a pear sparkling. The ambition: an all-Chiba-City wine from the estate's own Wakaba-ward vineyard, timed to the city's 900th anniversary in 2026.
