Growing wine grapes on Yachimata's breezy plateau since 2010, this family farm opened Sawa Wines in 2021 as the town's first winery.
Sawa Wines traces to a vineyard that has grown wine grapes — including Muscat Bailey A, Chardonnay and Koshu (Japan's indigenous white grape) — on a breezy plateau in Yachimata since 2010. Contract winemaking began in 2014, and in October 2021 the operation opened Sawa Wines, Yachimata's first winery. Its wines have circulated through limited distribution via the retailer Imadeya.
