Chasing the cool air of the Akagi highlands, this small Gunma winery relocated to Showa Village to express its mountain terroir.
Okutone Winery was founded in Numata, Gunma, in 1991, then relocated in 2000 to Showa Village in search of the cooler climate of the Akagi highlands. It works mainly with European varieties — Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Zinfandel — in small-lot production built around this highland terroir.
