A second-career couple on a Mikasa hillside, growing Bacchus and Pinot Noir one row at a time.
Hamada Vineyard sits on the Tappu hills of Mikasa, farmed by a husband-and-wife team who left earlier careers — one a University of Tokyo medical graduate — and retrained for about a year at Mikasa's Yamazaki Winery before planting their own vines. The first harvest came in autumn 2018 and the first release a year later. Since 2021 the wines, led by Bacchus and Pinot Noir, have been made at a domaine the couple co-founded with a neighboring vineyard.
