Born from a shopping-street revival in central Mito, Domaine Mito opens its winemaking to the community it grew out of.
Domaine Mito grew out of an effort to revitalize the Izumi-cho shopping district in central Mito, and now operates as an urban 'machinaka winery' embedded in the neighborhood it helped bring back to life. Rather than working behind closed doors, it opens its winemaking to residents through participatory crush days and hands-on workshops, spreading a taste for wine through direct experience. Muscat Bailey A, a Japanese-bred red grape, is central to what's poured here.
