Petit Manseng planted on fallow land in 2014 grew into a 2.3-hectare estate, now home to 13 grape varieties at Tsukuba's sixth-industrialization winery.
Led by Manabu Takahashi, the project began in 2014 with Petit Manseng vines planted on roughly 1,000 square meters of fallow farmland. The vineyard grew to about 2.3 hectares, and in December 2019 it received Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries certification as a sixth-industrialization project. In August 2020 it obtained a manufacturing license under the Tsukuba Wine & Fruit Liquor Special Zone and opened its own brewing facility, Kurihara Winery — until then, wine had been made under contract by a sake brewer in Chikusei. A separate, unrelated company also operates as 'Tsukuba Winery' in the same city.
