Founded in 1903 by Denbei Kamiya, Ushiku Chateau was Japan's first full-scale winery and today operates from buildings designated Important Cultural Properties.
Ushiku Chateau traces its roots to 1903, when Denbei Kamiya opened it as the Ushiku brewery, Japan's first full-scale winery, adopting French grape varieties and Bordeaux-style winemaking techniques. Its historic building complex is now designated a National Important Cultural Property, and the winery continues to share Japanese wine culture from the same site today.
