Run by a social welfare organization on a hill above Hanamaki's terraced rice fields, Art Paysan became the city's first craft wine and cider producer in 2019.
Art Paysan Winery sits on a hill overlooking terraced rice fields and mountains in Hanamaki, Iwate, operated by the social welfare corporation Yuwakai as part of its disability employment support work. It opened in 2019 as the first winery under Hanamaki's craft wine and cider special zone, using low-pesticide fruit — Chardonnay and apples — grown on its own farm to make wine and cider that capture the local terroir.
