Iwate's first winery, founded in 1962 in Hanamaki, Edelwein sources 100% of its grapes from the prefecture and hosts an annual Wine Festival each September.
Edelwein was founded in 1962 in Hanamaki's Osasa area as Iwate's first winery, on the belief that good wine can only come from good grapes. It works with 34 local farmers and uses 100% Iwate-grown grapes, aiming to express the region's terroir. Visitors can tour the winery and taste for free at Wine Chateau Osasa, and the winery hosts a Wine Festival every year on the third Sunday of September.
