An engineer turned grower in the Hanamaki hills, running his vineyard on data and aiming wine at washoku.
Ohsama Sato Vineyard farms 70 ares in the mountains of Odashima, Hanamaki, where a former medical-device engineer changed careers in 2016, planted vines in 2017 and opened his winery in 2021 — the second under the Hanamaki craft wine and cider special zone. The vineyard is run like the lab he came from: thorough data analysis guides the growing, vine by vine and cluster by cluster. All fruit is estate-grown Merlot and Zweigeltrebe, and the target is clear — dry wines that sit comfortably beside Japanese food. Visits are possible with advance consultation.
