Built by a construction firm to revive fallow farmland in Shiojiri, Domaine Sourire — French for 'smile' — has grown grapes since 2013.
Domaine Sourire was established in 2019 by Shiojiri Kenyu, a construction and food-service company, as part of a project to revive fallow farmland in Hirooka, Shiojiri. Grape growing began in 2013, ahead of the winery's 2019 opening. Sourire is French for 'smile.' The winery also runs a bakery specializing in rice-flour bread.
