Guided by the belief that wine is born in the vineyard, Eiji Okamoto farms and vinifies almost single-handedly, crafting a hard-to-find 'phantom' wine.
Beau Paysage was founded in 2008 in Takane, Hokuto, under the philosophy that 'wine is not made by people — it is born in the vineyard.' Using no chemical fertilizers, herbicides or pesticides, winemaker Eiji Okamoto handles nearly every step — from growing Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Koshu (Japan's indigenous white grape) through vinification and bottling — almost entirely alone. The resulting wines are so limited that they are known at home and abroad as a hard-to-find, 'phantom' label.
