Kizan Wine holds that wine is nurtured by the earth, and its bottles are made almost entirely from its own vineyard plus grapes from the surrounding Higashi-Yamanashi area — genuinely Yamanashi wine. Founded in 1930 in Enzan, Koshu-shi, in the mountain-ringed northeast of the Kofu basin, it remains a family operation run by a husband and wife, producing about 30,000 bottles a year. True to its quiet, craftsman spirit, the winery sells its wine but offers no tastings.
