Maruki Budoshu, founded in 1877, is the oldest winery still operating in Japan. Everything, the house says, is for the grape: vineyards are managed with no-till grass cover and reduced pesticide use, keeping the growing environment as natural as practical, and the winemaking pursues innovation backed by nearly a century and a half of history. The range centers on Katsunuma-grown Koshu and Muscat Bailey A, from the estate-fruit flagship line to sparkling wine, and winery tours walk visitors among the tanks and sleeping barrels.
