Since introducing Japan’s first vacuum juice press, Okunota has protected its Chardonnay, Merlot and Koshu with a 170-member Vineyard Club behind it.
Okunota Winery began in 1962 as a shared brewing facility for local grape farmers, passing in 1989 to its current owner, Masakazu Nakamura. Its 1.5-hectare estate vineyard in Shioyama, Koshu City, grows Chardonnay, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, pressed with Japan’s first vacuum-type juice press, which protects the must from oxidation under nitrogen. More than 170 Vineyard Club members share in the farm work and tastings each year.
