Sadoya Winery was founded in 1917 in Kofu, a city known as the birthplace of Japanese wine in the early Meiji era. The winery began growing grapes in the Zenkoji area in 1936 and built its business on French winemaking methods, guided by a founding philosophy of a rich table where wine is enjoyed alongside food. Grapes include Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay. Visitors can tour the roughly 700-tsubo underground cellar, with its barrel-aging room, storage for traditional 1.8-liter bottles, exhibits and tasting counter, a five-minute walk from Kofu Station's north exit.
