Kurayoshi Winery took shape after three neighboring municipalities won a joint wine special-zone designation in 2017; the company followed in July 2018, setting its cellar inside a machiya townhouse in Kurayoshi's nationally designated historic preservation district. Grapes — Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and the table grape Pione — grow on the sandy soils of Tottori's central dune fields, and everything from farming to fermentation stays in-house under the Hakushu label. A café, shop and tasting corner welcome visitors, with an online shop for the rest of the country.
